Dear UNCG Community,

As communicated yesterday, we continue to monitor the potential winter weather that appears to be heading toward our region. As with any weather event, information is always evolving and subject to change.

Guilford County is currently under a Winter Weather Advisory. The latest forecast still has a wide range of possible levels of snow accumulation from 0-4 inches in the Greensboro area. Winter weather is expected to reach our area this afternoon. Some snow accumulation across the state of North Carolina is likely, with heavier impact expected to the east. Temperatures are expected to climb Friday afternoon, and most surface temperatures are above freezing so we do not expect this to be a long-lasting event – but it could impact travel in our area and around the state.

As a result and in the interest of safety for our community, all classes that begin at 2:00 p.m. or later will be canceled today. Additionally, UNCG will enter Condition 1 of the adverse weather policy beginning at 2:00 p.m. today. This includes:

  • Mandatory Staff report per regular schedule. Non-mandatory Staff report per regular schedule or use compensatory time/annual leave/bonus leave or leave without pay. Supervisors may also allow employees to telework or work flexible schedules.
  • Non-mandatory Staff may have 90 days to make up time missed with supervisory approval.
  • Details on time management and leave policy are available here.

The UNCG Women’s Basketball game will proceed tonight as scheduled. Please contact specific units and departments for questions about other events or activities.

The University will communicate by 9:00 p.m. tonight (Thursday) on the status of operations for tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 21).

As with any adverse weather event, please make decisions about travel based on your personal circumstances and safety.  Ensure you pay attention to all relevant local weather and road condition information when planning travel. And please make sure you continue to monitor your email and Spartan Alerts for the latest information from UNCG.
