Winter Weather January 8, 2021
We continue to monitor the evolving winter weather forecast for our region. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for the Triad as a rain and snow mix is forecasted for tonight through Friday evening. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible. Much of the snow will fall during the daytime on Friday, which makes it less likely to accumulate. Wind gusts of 15-25 mph are also possible.
While impacts are not expected to be severe, we want to ensure you that we are prepared and are focused on the safety of our community. As with any weather event, information is always evolving and subject to change.
Based on the forecasted conditions, the University will operate on Condition 1 of the adverse weather policy, Reduced Operations, beginning at 6 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8 until noon Saturday, Jan. 9. Under Condition 1:
- Mandatory staff report per regular schedule
- Non-mandatory staff who are working from campus should discuss options with their supervisor to telework if they are unable to report to campus
- Non-mandatory staff currently teleworking should maintain their normal work schedule.
- If teleworking is not feasible, compensatory time/annual leave/bonus leave or leave without pay should be used. With supervisory approval, staff may have 90 days to make up missed time.
- Details on time management and leave policy are available here.
Employees should be prepared for adverse impacts including loss of power and remain in touch with their supervisors as needed. More information to help you prepare for the winter weather is available here. We will make all operational decisions as quickly and efficiently as possible, always with the safety of the campus community in mind. We will continue to provide updates on conditions as needed.
